About Us

Our vision: "to create a society where sibling kinship carers and dependents feel they are valued, supported and included within society..."

Our mission: "to provide sibling carers and dependents with the advice and emotional support they need to thrive and self-develop..."

Sibling Kinship charity was established in 2026 (pending CIO Registration) to support the needs of sibling kinship care - where an older sibling parents younger dependent siblings because parents are unable to. Trauma and loss are usually present, with reasons featuring parental bereavement, parental imprisonment, physical illness, abuse and neglect, substance abuse and mental health etc.

Sibling kinship care often begins in crisis and can bring shared grief, financial pressure, housing insecurity, disrupted education, and emotional strain. Support for these families is often limited, inconsistent and not designed with younger carers in mind.

At Sibling Kinship, we want to change that.

We offer free online peer support groups, mentoring, counselling, financial grants and more...

Our Founder's Story:

In 2010, at the age of 19, my siblings and I unexpectedly lost our mother and sole parent. As a result I took on the parenting responsibilities for my younger sister during a period of financial hardship, housing instability and distress. This time brought shared grief, poverty and poor mental health, along with emotional strain and feelings of resentment. Our mother was insolvent at the time of passing and learning to navigate the benefit system was a struggle. I had to leave college in order to work and help cover costs, but even then life remained difficult on means-tested welfare benefits. Despite these challenges, we both persevered until my sister moved on as an adult and I later returned to education...

Sibling Kinship was established in 2026 to raise awareness of sibling kinship care, bring together this unique group that have scarified so much already and offer a place for advice, support and connection".
